The Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife has convened key domestic and international partners to validate the country’s draft Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), marking a critical step in the ongoing climate change response and commitment to global climate action.
The validation workshop serves as the final technical and consultative checkpoint for the 2026–2035 climate roadmap before it undergoes formal Cabinet approval and submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat.
The meeting brings together representatives from government ministries, technical experts, development agencies, private sector groups, and civil society.
Through plenary reviews and sector-focused breakout groups, delegates are analysing greenhouse gas inventory methodologies, mitigation modeling, and adaptation targets to ensure the national plan balances environmental ambition with real-world implementation.
A core focus of the NDC 3.0 draft is sharpening both mitigation targets and resilience planning across key sectors. The updated framework scales up Zimbabwe’s mitigation actions while broadening its adaptation strategies to cover critical areas such as health, forestry, biodiversity, and tourism alongside traditional focus areas like agriculture, water, and infrastructure.
Participants are also evaluating the draft’s gender-inclusive framework and its alignment with national development priorities under National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030, ensuring the climate roadmap directly supports sustainable economic growth.
