RTG’s solar project saves Kadoma Hotel 40% of electricity

Staff Writer

Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) says its solar plant at Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre has reduced the overall hydro-generated electricity consumption by an average of 40%.

The hotelier said the 300kva solar plant marks a significant milestone towards greening the hotel and is also proof of concept for future similar projects.

RTG has committed to reducing its dependence on the national grid as it turns renewable energy to power its facilities across the country.

The hotel group commenced the installation of a solar system at the Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre on March 1, 2022.

During the year ended December 31, 2023, RTG said it launched an afforestation and reforestation program under the theme “A tree for every room” where a total of 6 000 trees were planted at ten schools in Kadoma.

The initiative was in partnership with the Forestry Commission of Zimbabwe.

“This initiative goes beyond offsetting direct carbon footprint; as it builds a culture of environmental mindfulness, provides protection of infrastructure through the creation of windbreaks, actively restores natural habitats, supports biodiversity and empowers communities. The program will be rolled out in schools and communities in all the regions where RTG operates,” RTG’s chairman Douglas Hoto said.
