ZB makes strides in renewable energy transition

ZB Financial Holdings (ZB) is taking a strategic approach to transitioning its operations and investments towards renewable energy sources, as part of its efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and transition towards a sustainable business model.

The leading financial institution in Zimbabwe revealed that it has adopted a goal to install functional solar systems at all its premises at a rate of five systems per year.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce the group’s reliance on conventional energy sources and transition towards a more environmentally friendly and sustainable business model.

In its 2023 annual report, the company said during the past year, it successfully installed a 52-kilowatt on-grid solar system at its head office, as well as solar systems of varying sizes at five service centre locations. The solar systems serve as backup power solutions, providing a reliable and sustainable source of energy.

In addition, ZB has provided solar lighting solutions to several universities, including Chinhoyi University of Technology, Midlands State University, and National University of Science and Technology. The solar-powered lighting solutions have provided much-needed lighting in these locations.

ZB said solar installations are planned as the group’s data centre and selected service centres throughout the country.

“Our investment activities are also aligned with sustainability objectives as the group aims to prioritise clients who have a focus on renewable energy sources. We are actively working to reduce our reliance on convectional energy sources and transition towards a more environmentally friendly and sustainable business model,” the group said.

The company’s efforts towards sustainability are seen as a significant step towards reducing the company’s carbon footprint and mitigating the impact of climate change

As the global economy continues to shift towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future, ZB’s decision to adopt renewable energy sources is likely to be seen as a key step towards achieving this goal.
